Barkantine Estate
The Barkantine is a large social housing estate, including three high rise blocks, in Millwall, Isle of Dogs, Tower Hamlets. The estate opened in 1968 and provides homes for over 2,000 people.
At the centre is the Quarterdeck a pedestrianised uncovered promenade and park which includes a Masjid for the Muslim community, a primary school, shops, and a pub. On the edge of the estate is a large GP surgery, church, community centre and nursery.
Greening Communities is creating two new growing areas on the Quarterdeck of which one will focus on food growing and the second herbs and flowing plants. We are launching a regular growing club to provide tenants and residents with the confidence and skills to grow their own food and herbs.
